Arthur James Balfour was born on July 25, 1848, at Whittingehame House, East Lothian, Scotland, the eldest son of James Maitland Balfour (1820–1856) and Lady Blanche Gascoyne-Cecil (1825–1872). Arthur James Balfour succeeded his uncle, Lord Salisbury, who had been his political mentor and champion. However, his initial interests were not political. He enjoyed music and poetry, and was Arthur Balfour was one of the most prominent politicians of the United Kingdom, who lived in the 19th century. Entering politics wasn’t too tough a task for Balfour since the families of both his parents were into politics.
